Digipak designs
First Inside Cover ideas (design):
I particularly like this final edit of this
image/potential inside cover. This is because:
· The
eyes become a lot more visually grasping and will encourage the purchaser of
the album (presumably as they are looking within the outside cover) to listen
to the content further-the direct eye-contact allowing an almost ‘personal’
touch to be added to the album, as if by buying the album, the purchaser has
become a lot more ‘closer’ to the artist. Being a new artist this is very important-wanting
to start a potential fan base and encourage people within her target audience
to ‘like’ her as a brand/artist (the personal aspect of this image meaning they
will feel a lot more ‘closer’ to this ‘new’ artist).
· The
colour of the eyes and powder paint on the artist’s face have been specifically
enhanced in colour and radius, as I believe that these aspects reflect the
artist more effectively, wanting to promote ‘Luna’ as an ‘individual’ and ‘creative’/’expressive’
artist, new on the dance music ‘scene’.
· The
predominant focus on colour/powder paints means both a link to the front cover
of the album/digipak (see final front cover design draft) and to the Afterglow
video (potentially the main/most popular track on the album). This means that
the digipak synergises throughout and also with the music video I will create
for Afterglow. àSynergising
this way means a more effective promotional aspect to the digipak/promo
advert/music video (etc.) similarly to previous digipak/album adverts I
analysed of existing artists.
- I have cropped the image so that the eyes become the main focus, I believe that they are a key visual aspect of the image and become the most effective 'part' of it. When being next to the CD of the actual album (in layout of the digipak) means that this personal/visually persuasive image is crucial/most effective when wanting individuals (target audience) to listen to this 'new' artist's music/'consider' her as an artist.
^The above is of the first edit/idea I had when visually
enhancing this image. I particularly like:
· The
way the eyes are the main focal point, being the main aspect of the image
meaning that by enhancing them on photo shop I have almost brought them ‘out’
of the photo-drawing the potential buyer of the album to listen to the content
further.
· I
also enhanced the colour on the artist’s face, meaning that even though the
image is ‘dulled’ (contrasted greater) the colour of both the artist’s eyes and
powder paint are still predominant in the image. I have made this the case as
the use of colour (powder paint in particular) gives off a sense of the new
artist’s ‘expressive’ and ‘now’ feel (which is the way I would like to promote
her as a ‘new’ dance artist)
However, I believe that by contrasting the image to this
amount (more than 50%-on pixlr express software) has meant that the main colour
aspect of the image isn’t as visible visually as I would like it to be. The
digipak overall having a large amount of bright colours (individual ‘look’)
means that I believe the inside cover should ‘carry this through’. Furthermore
I think that when being placed ‘next to’ the CD cover design I believe this
image would look rather ‘dull’ in comparison with the bright colours I have
included on my final CD cover draft design.

Original photography (image):
This image is a screen grab from my shooting (main
filming over the course of two days). I have selected this as one of my ideas
for the main image as it both shows the expressive, stylized feel of the artist
but also with a focus on the eyes-becoming a lot more personal and eye-catching
once opening the digipak/album (enticing the buyer to listen to the CD
further). I particularly like this image as the person I selected to model as ‘Luna’
(my artist) has very captivating eyes both in colour and size which I believe allows
the image to become a lot more effective in becoming visually captive.
Taking this in the main shoot also means that the use of powder paint is very visually drawing in this image, the colours on the artist’s face being very bright and vibrant (and varied) means that another visual aspect is given to the image-therefore being more likely to entice/encourage the purchaser of the album to listen to the content/new artist.

Second Inside Cover idea (design):
The aspects I most like about this final idea/design
(editing of the image) are:
· The enhancement
of the use of powder paint-becoming a lot more visually grasping to the viewer
(reinforcing the use of powder paint/colour)
· The almost
‘neutral’ colours used (powder paint), in partner with the almost ‘relaxed’
facial expression of the model gives a sense of ‘calm’ when opening/purchasing
the album/digipak opposed to the vibrantly coloured front/back cover. This
means that a sense of variation in both the artist’s music and personality is
given off-promoting my ‘new’ artist further/more effectively.
However, when doing both market audience research and
considering my other design for the inside cover I decided against using this
design:
· The majority
of the individuals I asked (17-19 years) said they found this almost ‘boring’
and wasn’t brightly coloured enough when considering the other final draft designs
of different aspsects of the digipak (in particular the CD cover and back
cover).
· Others
also said that it was too similar to the front cover and believed that it would
distract from the ‘effectiveness’ of the simplistic colour scheme of the front
image in contrast to both the back cover and CD cover.
Original image:
Although this image isn’t mine (original photography), I am very sure I will be able
to achieve this-having shot the filming for my video I am aware of what I am
able to do with powder paint and that I can effectively ‘stay’ on the human
face and have also got similar colours to the powder paint used in this image.
Having taken this from ‘tumblr’ (online internet source) as well as the image I
have used for the promo advert design means that when doing a very similar
photo shoot to these images they will link very effectively and mean that the digipak
and promo advert synergise (along with the powder paint aspect of my promo
music video).
