Initial ideas of
effects I will use in my music video
Jess
Glynne-Right Here is a very good example of the types of post-production
effects I would like to use within my music video. Within this video in
particular I think editing (effects) are used very effectively in order to
create a very visually interesting video which both reflects the artist's
personality/style (brand) but also 'goes' with the song itself, being a
dance-genre track (the up-beat feel of the song fitting well with the 'style'
in which the effects have been added). The 'style' of the effects in this music
video give an overall 'alternative' effect, this adds to Jess Glynne's 'brand'
as an artist very well-being presented as an 'alternative' dance (genre)
artist, she has a very strong sense of style and personality-being shown
throughout her clothing (representation) as well as through her music videos
(all of which can be seen in this particular video).
I have specifically chosen to analysis Jess Glynne (one of her videos) because as a dance artist she has a very strong 'brand' through both her fashion sense as well as her music (videos/promotion). Designing for brands such as Topshop and Zara, as an artist she is very influential on the current fashion of her 'target audience' age (both clothing brands aiming towards mid/late teens through to mid twenties). Promoting herself through her clothing and strong brand image means that as an artist Jess Glynne promotes herself very effectively (her brand/image) through videos such as this (the 'feel' the the effects bring to the videos).
I would like to create/add a similar feel to my video through the
use of this style of effect (the overlays used/colour scheme). This is because
I believe this will allow my video to become a lot more visually interesting (memorable)
and also believe that this style of effect goes very well with the dance
genre.

I have
taken these screen-grabs from the video as they show the ways in which I want
to adapt (use) a similar style of effects from this video to my own. I
also particularly like the almost 'mono' colour scheme the use of
'leaks' and 'overlays' create within this video (e.g. the pink/purple feel
to the video throughout especially when the use of effects occurs). This
both adds a stylised feel to the video as well as bringing through
the artist's brand ('alternative' feel to her as an artist). As a
collection these screen grabs reflect the effective ways in which effects are
used to add to the artist's style as well as bring the video a very interesting
visual aspect. In particular I think that the 'reflection' effect that has been
used is very effective (especially for the dance genre of music).
